Pretoria: The South African BRICS Youth Association (SABYA), in collaboration with the University of South Africa (UNISA), is set to host the 5th BRICS Summer School South Africa 2026 on September 2 and 3, 2026. The event will be held at UNISA in Pretoria.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this two-day event will focus on the theme ‘Innovatively Inclusive Futures for BRICS and the Global South’ and is expected to gather around 150 participants. This intensive program aims to foster learning, dialogue, networking, and international exchange, with confirmed participants from 12 countries.
The summer school will commence with keynote addresses by Sindisiwe Chikunga, Minister for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities in the Presidency, and Thandi Moraka, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation. The program aims to explore significant topics such as the history and development of BRICS, economic cooperation, opportunities within BRICS, the reform of global governance, diplomacy, and the evolving role of the Global South.
The event provides a platform for students, researchers, young professionals, academics, entrepreneurs, youth leaders, and others to engage with experts. Raymond Matlala emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the necessary knowledge, networks, and platforms to be active participants in shaping the future of BRICS and the Global South. Bringing together young individuals from 12 countries offers a vital opportunity to strengthen people-to-people relations and cultivate the next generation of globally engaged young leaders.
The program will include lectures and discussions on BRICS cooperation and opportunities, financial cooperation, global governance reform, and the New Development Bank. It will also facilitate meaningful engagement between local and international participants.
