Supreme Court Judge appears before Tribunal

A Supreme Court Justice, Sylvester Ngwuta has been arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false asset declaration.

Justice Ngwuta was arraigned in Abuja on eight count charge, which he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Some of the charges against Justice Ngwuta includes his failure to declare three parcels of land in Ebonyi State in his asset declaration forms before the Code of Conduct Bureau between June2, 2011 and July 2016 as a serving Justice of the Supreme Court.

He was also accused of not declaring some vehicles recovered from him during investigation and falsification of the cost of a jeep.


After taken the plea, the defense counsel, Mr. Kanu Agabi prayed the court to grant Justice Ngwuta bail on self recognition, which was granted by the president of the Court of Conduct Tribunal, Mr. Danladi Umar.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Umar Mohammed said that the tribunal granted him bail because it believed Justice Ngwuta would not jump bail.

The defence counsel, Mr. Agabi expressed readiness for the case at the adjourned date.

The case has been adjourned till July 12, 2017 for further hearing.
