Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has expressed his gratitude to the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), and other partners for their support in realizing Nigeria’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Project. Tinubu made these remarks at the 3MTT National Summit 2025, organized by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the 3MTT initiative was launched in October 2023, attracting 1.8 million applications from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with the aim of bridging the skills gap. President Tinubu emphasized that the project was designed to enhance and transform digital and technical skills nationwide, urging the youth to stay committed to the overarching objectives.
Representing President Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, also acknowledged the contributions of private sector players to the initiative. Key participants include IHS Towers, MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Google, Microsoft, Huawei, Moniepoint, the United Nations Development Programme, and the European Union. He highlighted the necessity of ongoing collaboration among the government, industry, and development community to ensure the project’s growth and expansion.
In her address, Beatrice Eyong, the UN representative to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), described the initiative as a significant step towards reform, demonstrating courage and foresight for Nigeria’s future. She emphasized that the Renewed Hope Agenda positions Nigeria’s youth as active participants in the global digital economy, showcasing the country’s ambitions with clarity and speed.
EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Guatier Mignot, expressed satisfaction with the EU’s role in the project under the global gateway strategy. He clarified that the EU’s involvement extends beyond aid, focusing on leveraging investments to create jobs and opportunities for Nigerian youth. Mignot underscored the importance of industry standards and certifications in strengthening economic ties between the EU and Nigeria.
Earlier, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, reported that the first phase of the 3MTT project has resulted in 15,000 direct jobs, with average earnings exceeding N250,000. He highlighted the importance of increased collaboration with the private sector to expand job opportunities for those trained through the program.
