Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi). This announcement, made through a statement signed by Presidential Spokesperson Mr Bayo Onanuga, marks a significant move in the administration’s efforts to address the economic challenges following the removal of fuel subsidies.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ahmed’s role will involve overseeing the operations of the PCNGi, a central element of the government’s palliative intervention programme. This initiative is focused on encouraging the use of more affordable and environmentally friendly energy solutions. Ahmed’s leadership is expected to drive the initiative forward, mitigating the economic impact on citizens by promoting the adoption of compressed natural gas as a viable alternative.
Ahmed, aged 45, brings a wealth of experience and education to the position. He completed his Bachelor of Law degree at the University of Abuja in 2005 and was called to the Nigerian Bar a year later after his studies at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja. Furthering his education, he earned a master’s degree in International Relations, Communications, and Diplomacy from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008. His previous role as the Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Programme from 2018 to 2022 highlights his capability in managing large-scale governmental initiatives.
