Post: Tinubu Appoints Majekodunmi as Director-General of National Council on Climate Change

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC). This announcement marks a significant leadership change within the council tasked with spearheading Nigeria’s climate initiatives.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, this appointment was disclosed in a statement by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga. Majekodunmi succeeds Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, who was the pioneering head of the NCCC, having been appointed by the President in June 2024.

Majekodunmi brings to the role over 17 years of experience as a climate finance expert and environmental lawyer. Her extensive work with both global and national institutions has focused on renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance, making her a well-suited leader for advancing Nigeria’s climate agenda.

In her previous capacity, Majekodunmi served as the NCCC’s Financial Adviser, where she significantly influenced the shaping of Nigeria’s climate policies and its international climate-related engagements. Her leadership is expected to further strengthen the council’s efforts in tackling climate change.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to Dr. Madueke for her dedicated service and the robust foundation she established, which will support the council’s continued growth and effectiveness in addressing climate challenges.
