Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Prof. Ademola Adenle, a Nigerian scholar and sustainability expert, for securing the inaugural World Academy of Sciences-M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace. Tinubu expressed his admiration while welcoming Adenle at the State House, commending his significant contributions in agricultural innovation, biosciences, renewable energy, and public health.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the president lauded Adenle for his efforts in developing sustainable solutions that positively impact rural and marginalized communities in Africa and beyond. The meeting, which included the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, highlighted the importance of Adenle’s achievements for Nigeria on the global stage.
Adenle achieved a milestone as the first recipient of this prestigious global award, which was presented by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 7, 2025, during the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in New Delhi, India. The award, akin to a ‘mini Nobel Peace Prize,’ was established by The World Academy of Sciences in honor of the late Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, recognized as the ‘Father of India’s Green Revolution.’
Currently serving as the Senior Special Adviser on Agricultural Innovation at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Adenle was acknowledged for his work in advancing food security, climate justice, and empowering vulnerable groups. He announced the forthcoming launch of the Women in Biosciences Initiative, which aims to enhance rural productivity through training, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The initiative will also tackle issues like malnutrition, waterborne diseases, and promote renewable energy adoption, focusing on solar power to address energy poverty.
The Women in Biosciences Initiative will be executed in collaboration with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation across regions in Africa and Asia. During the award ceremony, Indian Prime Minister Modi praised Adenle as ‘a beacon of hope’ for his commitment to addressing some of the most critical challenges facing humanity.
