Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has renewed the tenure of Malam Ali Muhammed Ali, the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), for another three-year term. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement released in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the President also extended the tenure of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Malam Abdulhamid Dembos. Onanuga explained that both Dembos and Ali were first appointed on October 20, 2023, and their second term will commence on October 20, 2026.
The statement highlighted Dembos’ background, noting that he hails from Adamawa and is a former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU). He previously served as the Executive Director of marketing at the NTA, following his retirement in 2017. Dembos began his career with the NTA as an announcer at the Kaduna Station after completing his National Youth Service in 1989, eventually rising to roles such as General Manager at NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano, and retiring as the acting Zonal Director at the NTA Kaduna Network Centre.
Onanuga described Ali Muhammed Ali as a seasoned journalist and media manager with over three decades of experience. Ali is noted for his interest in media evolution and content development in the digital era, aiming to meet the needs of a varied audience through alternative news feeds. His academic credentials include a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University, Kano.
President Tinubu has encouraged both Ali and Dembos to validate the trust placed in them by continuing to show dedication to their organizations’ missions and supporting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
