Tinubu’s $1 Trillion Economy Goal for Nigeria in Sight, Says Idris

Enugu: The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transforming Nigeria into a one trillion dollar economy is within reach. Idris made this remark during a courtesy visit to the governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Idris is currently in Enugu as part of a three-day tour focusing on Federal Government projects and citizen engagement within the state and neighboring Ebonyi. Idris highlighted the President’s bold leadership, particularly citing the removal of the fuel subsidy as a pivotal decision.

He noted that despite initial skepticism and complaints, the decision has led to significant successes. Idris remarked that state governments now have increased funds to enhance infrastructure and provide democratic dividends to citizens. The removal of the subsidy has released resources necessary for substantial capital projects, allowing the country to address its financial obligations more effectively.

Idris emphasized that the shift in economic strategy has begun to show results, noting that the public has started experiencing the benefits of the decision, diminishing any previous opposition. He illustrated that previously, a staggering 97 percent of the national budget was allocated to servicing and paying debts, leaving a negligible portion for other essential expenses.

NAN reports that Idris was accompanied by a delegation that included Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Assistant to Tinubu on Communication and Strategy, as well as several heads of major national media and broadcasting agencies.

The activities in Enugu and Ebonyi are set to continue with further inspections of Federal Government projects and additional engagements with local citizens, underscoring the administration’s commitment to transparency and progress.
