Tinubu’s Commitment to Strengthen NDLEA in Combating Drug Abuse Highlighted by Ribadu

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu will continue to strengthen the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) because of its strategic value to the success of the country’s national security architecture. The National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, made this assertion during the inauguration of 48 new vehicles distributed to strategic commands and formations of NDLEA in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ribadu commended NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, and his team for their sustained commitment and discipline. He highlighted that under Marwa’s leadership, the NDLEA has effectively addressed threats posed by illicit drugs, which undermine national security, social stability, and public health. Ribadu emphasized the importance of mobility in combating drug trafficking, stating that the newly commissioned vehicles would enhance the agency’s ability to intercept traffickers and deploy resources efficiently.

Ribadu further explained the systemic link between drug trafficking and insecurity, noting how criminal gangs and insurgents fund their activities through drug profits. He pointed out the devastating impact of drug addiction on young Nigerians, families, and communities. The President’s Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes drug control as a key pillar of national security strategy, he stated.

The President’s support, through funding, inter-agency cooperation, and policy alignment, has been crucial in reaching this milestone, Ribadu added. The vehicles will be used nationwide to bolster NDLEA’s operational presence, strengthen deterrence, and ensure traffickers face justice. He affirmed that the NDLEA will continue to receive full backing from the Office of National Security Adviser and coordinate efforts with other security and regulatory agencies.

Ribadu challenged NDLEA officers to view the vehicle inauguration as a call to action, urging them to remain vigilant, act within the law, and uphold professionalism. He emphasized that the NDLEA is not only building lives but also shaping national policy.

In his address, Marwa described the event as symbolic of efforts to reposition the agency as a modern and respected organization. He highlighted the administration’s commitment to equipping institutions crucial to national security and public health. Marwa thanked President Tinubu for his unwavering support, which enabled the vehicle procurement. He reiterated that the administration’s fiscal backing reflects a strong resolve to address insecurity and social dislocation.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a total of 38 SUVs were distributed to various commands across the country, while 10 sedan cars were allocated to different directorates.
