Transport Ministry to launch `Operation Decongest Anambra Roads’

Awka-Anambra State Commissioner for Transport Mr Afam Mbanefo has unveiled plans to decongest roads in the state.

The project termed: “Operation Decongest Anambra Roads’’, is geared toward ensuring free flow of traffic on all roads in the state.

Mr Mbanefo said this on July 1, during a meeting with the Association of Park Managers in the state, held in Awka, the state capital.

“We will be enforcing the decongestion of all flash points in Anambra State, starting from the Nkpor axis.

“We are coming up with our Task force to make sure that our parks become functional rather than using the roads,’’ he said.

The commissioner explained that the Ministry had plans to form a committee, with members drawn from the Internal Revenue Board, the ministry, the Drivers Union for harmonising ticketing in the state.

He also urged Park Owners and Managers to ensure strict implementation of COVID-19 protocols in their various parks.

Earlier, the Vice Chairman of the association, Mr Douglas Ivedezi, welcomed the `wonderful innovations outlined’, pledging their support to ensure a smooth and better transport system in the state.

Present at the event include the Acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs Nkiru Okonkwo, government officials and park managers.
