Sunyani, Ghana: In a significant move to support education in deprived areas, the Union Groups of Companies, which operates the Sunyani-based Union FM radio station, has donated 5,000 exercise books to schools in the Bono Region. This gesture is aimed at enhancing educational resources in underserved communities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Ruth Taeko, the General Manager of Union Groups of Companies, during the presentation, emphasized that this initiative is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. According to her, Dr. Augustine Opoku Agyemang, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, is deeply committed to human development and is keen on removing barriers that hinder educational growth.
Mrs. Taeko expressed her hope that the donation would greatly benefit poor and vulnerable children in deprived communities, inspiring them to pursue their education diligently.
Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, received the books on behalf of the schools. She expressed gratitude to the Union Groups of Companies for their generous contribution. She assured that the education directorate would handle the distribution of the books to ensure they reach the intended recipients.
Madam Owusu-Banahene highlighted the need for private sector support in providing quality basic education. She called on other companies, organizations, and corporate bodies to follow suit and assist basic schools in the region with learning and teaching materials.
The Regional Minister also commended Dr. Agyemang for his significant contributions to enhancing the quality of education in the region. She expressed optimism that his continued support would help address the critical challenges facing the growth and development of education in the Bono Region.
