University of Innovation, Science, and Technology Omumma to Enhance Educational Access in Imo State


Abuja: Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo has announced that the University of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Omumma, will enhance educational opportunities in the state and across Nigeria. Uzodimma made these comments in Abuja during a ceremony where the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, presented him with the Certificate of Recognition for the newly established institution.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Uzodimma expressed gratitude to the NUC’s management and staff for acknowledging the university. He emphasized the institution’s role in expanding educational access and fostering digital skills, innovation, science, and technology. He highlighted the importance of proper education for the youth to support economic growth and improve quality of life in Imo State. The new university aims to reduce the challenges faced by young people in accessing higher education.



The university will collaborate with Imo Digital City and the University of Berkeley, California, which will serve as a mentoring institution to help develop a practical curriculum. The institution’s focus on entrepreneurship and innovation is expected to produce graduates who will become employers and job creators.



Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu of the NUC noted that the establishment of the university reflects the Imo State Government’s dedication to education and expanding access for Nigerians. He reiterated the commitment to ensuring that tertiary education in Nigeria adheres to the highest standards. According to Ribadu, the university represents a significant step in empowering youths and promoting knowledge-driven development.
