Uruagu/Umudim Nnewi road Erosion: Community dwellers call on government for help

Uruagu (Nnewi North LGA)-People of Okpunoeze-Akaboezem Umuezeagu, Uruagu and Akamili, Umudim, Nnewi North Local Government Area have called on Government to come to their aid as their communities are threatened by erosion menace.

They complained that ongoing construction works on some roads are gradually exposing some communities to erosion.

In an interview with an Information Officer, an elder statesman in Akaboezem, Mr Eugene Ojukwu, called on Anambra State Government come to their aid.

He said that the people had to painfully seek alternative ways to access their respective homes through neighbouring communities whenever it rained.

Mr Ojukwu said that he was disturbed that even St. Mary’s Cathedral Road that ran through Akaboezem and Emeka Offor Road Junction in Irefi Oraifite had continued to be flooded up to chest level during rains.

According to him, the road from Nkwo Nnewi Market linking Our Lady of Fatima Catholic, Church has developed deadly pot holes.

He noted that Akaboezem community was a table land, with possibility for flooding when it rained as well as boundary community.

Ojukwu, then, said the people of the area would be happy if the situation would be arrested in good time before the coming heavy raining season.
