Varsity of Innovation, Science, Tech Omumma to Expand Educational Access, Says Uzodimma


Abuja: Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo announced the establishment of the University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omumma, which aims to broaden educational access in the state and across the country. He made this announcement in Abuja during a presentation by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, who awarded the Certificate of Recognition for the newly established institution.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Uzodimma expressed gratitude to the NUC for recognizing the university, emphasizing the institution’s role in expanding educational opportunities and accessibility for the youth. He highlighted that the university would focus on fostering digital skills, innovation, science, and technology, which are essential for the state’s economic growth and quality of education. The institution is expected to alleviate the struggles faced by young people in accessing higher education.



Furthermore, Uzodimma revealed that the university would collaborate with Imo Digital City and the University of Berkeley, California, which will act as a mentoring institution. This partnership aims to develop a practical curriculum that will equip graduates to become employers and job creators, with a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation.



Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, the NUC’s Executive Secretary, stated that the university represents the Imo State Government’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities and empowering the youth through knowledge-driven development. He reiterated the NUC’s commitment to maintaining high standards in tertiary education across Nigeria, praising the governor’s initiative as a significant step towards achieving these goals.
