Awka-Anambra State Government has announced its readiness to stage the 12th Nigeria Police Games, scheduled to commence on Feb. 29.
Gov. Willie Obiano announced this during a news conference held at Government House, Awka.
The Games, which would take place at various locations in the state, would be the first of its kind in the entire South East region.
Gov. Obiano, who was represented by at the conference by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Solo Chukwulobelu, a professor, gave assurances that the state would accord the best hospitality to Police Community during the Games.
He urged Ndi Anambra to come out en-masse during the main event.
The Governor noted that the decision of the police to hold the Games in Anambra was to lend credence to the vastly improved security architecture operational in the state.
National Leader of the Police Team, Assistant Inspector-General (AIG), Alkali Usman commended Anambra Government for its preparedness toward hosting them.
Usman noted that participants in the 12th edition of the bi-ennial Games would come from the 12 zones of the Force.
The Games will feature 20 different sporting codes as with no fewer than 15,000 participants from all over the country.
The events will include track and field, football, volleyball, basketball, swimming and other outdoor events,” Usman said.
Chairman, Anambra Sports Development Commission, Tony Oli acknowledged that it was a privilege to host the Games.
This will expose Anambra youths to other sports not yet known to them as well as boost the economy of the state.”
