Aguata (Orumba South LGA)-Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano says her commitment to empowering women and the poor, remains steadfast.
Mrs Obiano, Founder of an NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), gave the assurance on Oct. 7, while empowering no fewer than 1,705 indigent persons at Orumba North and Orumba South Local Government Areas in her ongoing tour of the state.
The beneficiaries, mainly women, the physically challenged and children were selected from each of the 31 communities that made up the two LGAs.
Mrs Obiano, also known as Osodieme, while explaining the motive of visit to the areas said that the tour was essentially to touch lives of the indigent women at the grassroots as well as to feel the pulse of the people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
She described this period as a time of great need for the people, especially the poor.
The Governor’s wife, however, highlighted complementary roles that her NGO had been playing to alleviate the plight of the indigent women, in order to contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
Former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Emeka Sibeudu, who spoke at Orumba South, described the governor’s wife as an epitome of kindness, due to her humanitarian programmes.
Member representing Orumba North and Majority Leader at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Emeka Aforka and Member representing Orumba South, Mr Emmanuel Nwafor noted that this year’s visit was unique.
They agreed that the tour would assist the indigent members of the society, who were mainly vulnerable to the economic setbacks of COVID-19 pandemic to draw more strength and hope.
Commissioner for Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, thanked Mrs Obiano on behalf of the beneficiaries and commended her for defying prevailing odds to ensure that the palliatives got across to each community.
Commissioner for Housing, Mr Mike Okonkwo said that the tour has become a liberating experience given the large number of people that were benefiting from it.
Transition Committee Chairmen of Orumba North, Mr Obinna Ikwueto and his Orumba South counterpart Mr Cyprian Okereke commended Mrs Obiano for defying difficulties of Coronavirus pandemic to embark on this year’s tour.
They said that she has proved that her love for the helpless remains strong.
Dignitaries at the occasion are Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Matters and Community Liaison, Mrs Vera-Queen Okonkwo and Special Adviser on Special Duties, Mrs Ify Obinabo.
Others are former chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission, Prof Humphrey Nwosu and President General, Umunze Progressive Union, Mr John Akanyeonu.
