Abuja: The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has inaugurated the construction of the Transit Way (N2) road, linking Wuse Zone 3 to the Central Area, with assurances for more projects in the area. Speaking during the ceremony, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized that road infrastructure is crucial for investments and growth in modern cities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike stated that the N2 road project is part of the major infrastructure initiatives planned for President Bola Tinubu’s third-year anniversary. The FCTA aims to position Abuja as a model modern city through improvements in roads, schools, health facilities, and investor-friendly initiatives. He highlighted that road infrastructure is essential for attracting investment, as it facilitates development by linking cities.
Wike noted that Abuja has already attracted international investors, mentioning a Dubai-based company committed to replicating the Dubai City Walk project in the FCT. He explained that the N2 corridor, supported by two strategic bridges, originated from a citizen-led initiative around the TY Danjuma Foundation, which the FCTA expanded to connect the Central Area with Wuse District.
The Minister assured strict supervision of contractors handling government projects and announced plans to rehabilitate at least 40 additional schools across the FCT. This complements 70 ongoing school projects, of which approximately 45 have been completed. Wike also indicated that healthcare facilities would soon receive attention, stressing the urgency of timely project delivery.
Wike urged top officials to maintain effective coordination by keeping their phones on 24 hours a day. He noted that project inauguration activities would continue until late October, after which more projects crucial to the economy and the city’s landscape would be unveiled in November.
Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a significant step in enhancing connectivity, easing traffic congestion, and promoting seamless movement within the Abuja City center. She emphasized that the N2 Transit Way exemplifies the Renewed Hope Agenda, delivering tangible benefits for residents. Mahmoud also commended the National Assembly for their consistent support through collaboration and legislative backing.
