Amaeke FC have emerged champions of the 2018 Ekoli-Umunna Football Association tournament held at the Egbegbu mini-stadium in Ekoli-Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The 2018 EUFA tourney started on December 26 and had 18 teams, which represented the 18 communities that make up Ekoli-Edda.
Amaeke FC defeated Amaogbu FC 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy while Ugbo FC defeated Amakwu to come third. Amaeke received N500,000 while the first and second runners -up went home with N250,000 and N150,000 respectively.
Chairman, Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Eni-Uduma Chima, who handed the winners' trophy to Amaeke FC on Tuesday, said the event was aimed at promoting peace amongst people from the communities during the Yuletide.
Chima said, The essence of this annual football tournament is to promote peace and unity among the communities and provide recreation for people who came home for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
A lot of people who ordinarily will not want to come home will have something to look forward to when they come back. The competition gives us the opportunity to look at the people playing in the tournament and pick potential football talents from there.
