Abuja:Women Against Terrorism and Insurgency (WATI), a non-governmental organization, has endorsed the Armed Forces of Nigeria Personnel Online Discount Shop as a beneficial initiative for enhancing troop welfare.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, WATI highlighted that this platform could alleviate the economic challenges faced by military personnel, veterans, and their families by improving their access to essential goods and services. Dr. Veronica Bazuaye, the convener of WATI, emphasized that the technology-driven platform, introduced by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), has significant potential to provide relief to the Armed Forces community.
Bazuaye pointed out that military personnel work in challenging environments, making sustained welfare support vital for morale and institutional effectiveness. The inclusion of veterans and their dependants in the scheme broadens its potential impact. The platform aims to lower the cost of essential items and enhance access to goods through partnerships between the military and private-sector vendors.
The DHQ plans to expand the scheme to include more vendors and product categories, a move welcomed by WATI. Such expansion is expected to increase the initiative’s reach and long-term value for beneficiaries nationwide.
Bazuaye commended the DHQ and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for launching the initiative. She noted that the collaboration between the DHQ and Zinox Group exemplifies how public-private partnerships can address specific welfare needs. Bazuaye emphasized that attention to personnel welfare should complement ongoing military operations against terrorism, insurgency, and other security challenges.
She expressed optimism that the scheme would be efficiently implemented and expanded to ensure eligible beneficiaries across the country can access its benefits. WATI reaffirmed its support for efforts to enhance the welfare of serving personnel, veterans, and their families.
