Lagos: The Association of Professional Women Bankers (APWB) has urged Nigerian youths to uphold financial integrity in their careers and businesses to sustain cultural values. APWB Chairperson, Mrs. Rafiat Onitiri, gave the advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). She spoke on the sidelines of the 2025 Annual Conference of the Committee of E-Business Industry Heads, in Lagos.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Onitiri was reacting to the conduct of a banker, Blessing Yohana, who blocked fraudulent transactions on an elderly customer’s account in Sokoto. Yohana was honoured at the event by senior CeBIH executives, bankers, and other financial services industry stakeholders. Stakeholders, including a Central Bank representative, praised the banker’s integrity and character during the session.
‘The lady celebrated today reflects strong upbringing,’ Onitiri said, describing Yohana’s actions as a product of personal values. ‘It goes back to foundation. She was raised well and later shaped herself through discipline and commitment,’ she added. Onitiri said Yohana’s integrity could not be bought and had distinguished her among her peers. She urged young Nigerians to emulate Yohana’s conduct.
NAN reports that Onitiri was also recognised for her election as Chairman and Council Member of the Association of Professional Women Bankers. She praised the event organisers, noting that the theme on reimagining financial inclusion through cultural shifts was timely. APWB serves as the female wing of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
