Women urged to make nation building priority

Nigeria women have been urged to join hands with the government in building the nation.

A former Governor of Anambra state, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, gave the charge in Abuja during the inauguration of the Abuja Chapter of the ‘Umu Ada Di Igbo Mma INC’, an Igbo women socio-economic group.

He said that women are hardworking and committed to any course they embark on.

“This is a time we need our mothers, our wives, our sisters to contribute to the development of our place. Our place is in need of development. Our men sometimes sell out. But the women are dogged, consistent, very reliable and very encouraging people,” he said.

He noted that women have worked very hard and would not stop at anything to achieve successe.

Also speaking at the event, the wife of the Senate President, Mrs Bukola Saraki, said that women are the integral part of any nation as as they form the driving wheel in the affairs of a society beginning from the family.

She appealed to the ‘Umu Ada Di Igbo Mma’ to be united in purpose as they work towards improving the lives of women and the less privileged in the society.

“As a group, help in building families and enhance nation building. I think it’s a good platform for women. I therefore kindly charge you to establish strong relationships and form alliances with other multi-ethnic organisations towards national peace and integration,” Mrs Saraki urged.

Earlier in her address, the National Coordinator of the group, Mrs. Beauty Iheaka, said that the aim of the association was to promote unity amongst Igbo women of the seven eastern states of Nigeria.

“In this great organization, we are aiming to lead our people to cross the boundaries of mere good, so that everyone can become great in what they do,” said Mrs. Iheaka.

She said that the group also believes in the possibility of inspiring others to achieve greatness and live in it.

The National Coordinator of the group, also said that the association will engage in more charity works as well as impact on the society positively.

Mrs. Iheaka said that Umu Ada Di Igbo Mma INC, is a non- profit, non- political organization with headquarters in USA with the soul purpose of promoting the Igbo sisterhood, Igbo culture and its heritage.
