Awka-Participants at the refresher course organised through the office of the Head of Service (HOS) for administrative and Accounting Officers have hailed government for timeliness of the course.
The 4-day refresher course which ended in Awka was aimed at enlightening officers on Established Guidelines for Placement of Promoted and Retiring officers in the state civil service.
The HOS, Barr. Harry Udu, thanked Gov. Willie Obiano for approving funds for the training course notwithstanding the economic realities of the country.
Udu described the governor as a man of excellence, whose love for civil service drives him into taking pragmatic measures to ensure optimisation of the state’s service.
Udu described the course as timely as there was urgent need to bridge the knowledge gap between superior officers and young or poorly mentored officers in the service.
He, then, called on participants to hold firmly to the knowledge garnered from the course; apply them effectively whenever duty called for it.
Cultivate the habit of patiently following superior officers and endeavour to ask questions for your own development and maturity for optimised service delivery, HOS urged.
Director of Training, Office of HOS, Dr Nwando Obiano praised government for being proactively and concerned about manpower development in the service.
Dr Obiano, a lawyer, noted that the training came on the heels of the audit report that showed some anomaly in the placement of officers with regards to promotion, remuneration and benefits for active and retired staff members.
By this refresher course, administrative and accounting officers have become abreast with the correct and most current method of placement of the promoted and retiring officers.
It is the desire of government to attain perfection in operations within the service.”
She, then, enjoined the participants to hold onto the knowledge acquired from the training.
A participant, Mr Ifeanyi Ikechukwu, Head, Project Management and Monitor, Office of the Governor, hailed government for providing them such opportunity.
I thank the government for granting us the opportunity to gain more knowledge about civil service operations.
I am leaving here better determined and equipped to deploy my knowledge to schedules assigned to me so as to drive the civil service to better position.”
Mr Anthony Chinweike, a participant from the office of the Chief of Staff noted that before in the past, trainings such as this were rare.
He pleaded for such important training to be organised continually for the development of workers’ capacity, saying, it is the only way for guaranteeing effectiveness in the service”.
Another participant, Mr Cletus Okafor, Treasurer from Ogidi Idemili South LGA, thanked the governor and the organisers and prayed that the synergy between the governor and workers should continue.
He expressed confidence that at the end of the current administration, the governor would have left indelible marks on the very fabrics of the civil service of Anambra State.
