WPRF 2026 to Showcase Nigeria’s Progress and Counter Misrepresentation – FG


Abuja: The Federal Government says the forthcoming World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) Abuja 2026, will present an opportunity to counter false narratives about Nigeria and highlight its progress. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, stated this at the WPRF Abuja 2026 National unveiling ceremony in Abuja.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the WPRF Abuja 2026 with the theme, ‘Responsible Communication; The Voice of the World’, is organised by the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management. Idris emphasized that as the host of the WPRF 2026, Nigeria is taking on a leadership role in the realm of professional communication on a global platform.



Idris highlighted Nigeria’s diverse population, stating, ‘We are a country of over 200 million voices, diverse, dynamic and deeply expressive.’ He noted that under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria is taking on a leadership role in professional communication, positioning the country as a center of humanity. He mentioned that various initiatives, including the National Orientation Policy and an open government communication framework, are aimed at promoting truthful governance narratives and citizen inclusion.



The minister expressed that WPRF 2026 in Abuja is more than just a global conference, describing it as an opportunity to showcase Nigeria as a model of transformation through communication. He noted that under President Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria is seen as reforming, rebranding, and re-emerging, driven by innovation, private sector growth, and renewed international confidence.



Idris urged communicators, journalists, and public officers to embrace responsible communication. He called for integrity and transparency in communication, encouraging citizens to speak with empathy. He expressed optimism that WPRF Abuja 2026 would be a milestone in reshaping Nigeria’s global image, indicating that it would define Nigeria’s leadership in responsible communication.



Meanwhile, the President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, compared the WPRF Abuja 2026 to a FIFA World Cup, emphasizing its global significance. He mentioned that delegates from over 126 countries will attend to discuss responsible communication. Neliaku highlighted the potential to project the authentic Nigeria to the international community, countering misinformation and fake news. He also noted that Nigeria has been given the mandate to host the African Public Relations Association’s 2026 conference, allowing for consecutive hosting of significant events.



The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the National Committee for the WPRF Abuja 2026 was unveiled, with Dr. Suleiman Haruna as the Chairman and Malam Yakubu Lamai as Co-Chairman, among others. Popular Nigerian hip hop star, Innocent Idibia, also known as ‘2baba’, was introduced as the Music Ambassador of WPRF Abuja 2026.
