Umueze Anam (Anambra West LGA)-Anambra State Government has been applauded for floating smart Jobs and internet business initiative to take no fewer than 5,000 youths off the streets.
Mr Patrick Agha Mba, President of ASATU Youth wing, made this commendation at the launch of the programme at Umueze Anam Civil Centre, Anambra West Local Government Area (LGA).
Mr Agha Mba said the programme was designed in line with the state government’s vision in creating job opportunities for the teaming youths of Anambra.
“Smart jobs and internet business initiative is a programme by the state to take thousands of youths off the streets.
“It is a programme designed to engage no fewer than 5,000 youths in an online business, which will create sustainable online jobs for the teaming youths.
“To grow the enterprising skills of Anambra youths through emerging trends in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) business revolution.
“Surely, this initiative and other numerous innovative programmes by the state government will take our youths to the next level and move them out of the streets,’’ he said.
The ASATU boss noted that the initiative would open the minds of the youths to various possibilities inherent in the ICT and today’s business world.
He commended government efforts at stepping up the initiative down to the grassroots through the Ministry of Youth, Creative Economy and ASATU, Youth wing.
Mr Agha Mba urged the youths to take full advantage of the initiative to be self-employed and be useful to themselves, family, state and the Nation at large.
Welcoming the team, the Transition Committee Chairman, Anambra West LGA, Mr Sylvester Orji-Okafor described the initiative as one of its kind, urging the youths to avail themselves the opportunities and be engaged meaningfully.
Mr Orji-Okafor was represented at the event by Mr Onyemaechi Ogugua.
The chairman commended the Government for creating an enabling environment, where ideas and innovations thrived and allowing them to discover their potential.
Earlier in a speech, Director, Project Smart Jobs, Mr Chidi Kanu said the initiative was in collaboration with the Ministries of Transport, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs and ASATU Youth Wing.
He said that the programme was anchored on specific sectors of the economy, mainly, tourism, hospitality and travels with basic application tools provided.
Mr Chidi, then, noted that trainees would undergo online tutorials and mentorship processes after, which they would be matched with jobs on graduation.
The ASATU Publicity Secretary, Youth Wing, Mr Paul Obiorah and Anambra West Youth Leader, Mr Okwudili Nwadiogbu expressed appreciation to the government over the initiatives toward changing the fortunes of the Anambra youth.
