Abuja: Zahra Buhari-Indimi, daughter of Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, will host a charity football match in Abuja, in a move to empower youths and promote maternal health and education. The high-profile exhibition match, organised in collaboration with the Attom Foundation, will hold on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. The event, which brings together African football legends, seeks to harness the unifying power of sport to drive social impact in underserved communities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Buhari-Indimi stated that the initiative aims to promote sustainable development outcomes through a multi-pronged approach that targets vulnerable groups, especially women and youth. She emphasized that the event is more than just a game, describing it as a platform for empowerment and an opportunity to channel resources into areas that directly impact lives, such as education, healthcare, and shelter.
Proceeds from the event will be directed towards the ZMB Homes Foundation, a non-profit organisation that provides shelter and support to widows and orphans across Nigeria. Buhari-Indimi noted that the event was inspired by the values of resilience and service embodied by her late father, who rose from humble beginnings to lead the country. She hopes that young people will see what is possible, regardless of their background, and believes that many of them have the potential to achieve greatness if given the right support.
In addition to the football match, the event will feature a series of outreach activities including a gala night, youth football clinics, and visits to selected schools and healthcare facilities. It will also raise awareness and support for the programmes of both the ZMB Foundation and Attom Foundation, focusing on long-term impact in local communities. Buhari-Indimi encouraged public participation, emphasizing that collective effort is essential for nation-building. She highlighted the use of football to inspire action and give back, stating that empowering people is key to building a stronger Nigeria.
