Governor Bello Mohammed of Zamfara state has issued a stern warning to bandits and anyone seeking to disrupt the peace in the state.
The governor popularly called by his chieftaincy title ‘the Matawallen Maradun, after a meeting with security stakeholders at the Government House on Saturday, said that he would not tolerate any situation that would jeopardise the peace already being enjoyed in the state.
The meeting which had traditional rulers, security operations Chiefs, leaders of Fulani groups and Vigilante leaders in attendance was held behind closed doors.
In a statement released after the meeting signed by the Special Adviser to the governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Zailani Bappa, Governor Bello stated that the pursuit of peace in the state will now bear strictly “a carrot and Stick approach”.
According to the statement, the Zamfara Government has stepped up its fight against banditry even as it escalates in neighbouring States.
“This past one week, two squadrons of the Nigeria Police was established in the state while the 200 purchased Hilux vans by his administration for the fight against banditry by the security operatives have arrived the state, ” the statement read.
The Zamfara governor said his administration would deal decisively with anyone or group attempting to ‘wind the hands of the clock backwards’, by disrupting peace in the state.
He commended efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria at launching a special Military operation to cover the entire States of the North-West and promised his administration’s support to the operation.
