200 golfers in Abuja for 2022 CBN Governor’s Golf tourney

No fewer than 200 golfers are expected to participate in the 2022 edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor’s Golf Cup scheduled to tee-off in Abuja on Dec. 3.

Osita Nwanisobi, CBN’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Thursday that the tournament which is in its 15th edition, would hold at the IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja as part of the apex bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Nwanisobi said the one-day tournament sponsored by the CBN in collaboration with the IBB Golf Club, would be played in a “stroke play – shot gun” format.

“This format will see all competing golfers teeing-off at the same time from different points on the golf course,” he said.

The CBN spokesperson said that the bank remained devoted to the promotion and development of sports in the country with the annual sponsorship of the competition in line with its CSR.

According to Nwanisobi, the tournament will be competed in eight categories of Men’s Category I (Handicap 0 – 14); Men’s Category II (Handicap 15 – 28) Gross (Men); Ladies’ Category I (Handicap 0 -20); and the Ladies’ Category II (Handicap 21 – 30).

Other categories are the CBN Staff category, CBN retired staff category, CBN guests’ category and the Veterans category for men and ladies.

“Auxiliary prizes will be awarded for Nearest to the Pin for ladies, men and CBN staff; Longest Drive for ladies, men and CBN staff, while the overall winner is expected to cart away the Best Nett Prize.

“The CBN Governor’s Golf Cup is held annually to create a relaxed and recreational atmosphere for distinguished personalities in government, the organised private sector, elder statesmen and members of the diplomatic corps.

“The tournament also serves as a platform for promoting competitiveness and inspiring partnerships and networking among golfers.”
