Post: 52 Children Residing in Holding Centers Start Attending School

Kirtipur: A total of 52 children currently residing at temporary housing at the Radhaswamy Satsang Vyas Ashram in Kirtipur have started attending school from today. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Education Department, after consulting with students and their parents on Monday, is sending these children to Janabikas Secondary School in Ward No. 14, according to KMC Education Officer Namaraj Dhakal.

According to National News Agency Nepal, a total of 203 people from 66 families were relocated to the ashram from various areas, including Thapathali, Gairigaun, and Sinamangal, as part of an effort to vacate unorganized houses and huts along the riverbank. Among the relocated individuals, there are 62 men, including one with disabilities, three postpartum women, two pregnant women, 31 girls, and 30 boys. Of these, 52 children are of school-going age. Additionally, four have completed high school or the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) this year and are interested in learning skills such as computer programming and sewing. Dhakal mentioned that KMC has a plan to arrange skill-based training for them.

Furthermore, 11 girls and 19 boys have expressed interest in staying in the hostel. The KMC has already requested support from PABSON, NPABSON, and HISAN to assist these children with their studies and accommodation.
