Abuja: The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Value 360 Ventures, an international agribusiness organisation. This partnership aims to enhance the quality of fertilisers and soil fertility, thereby contributing to improved food security across Nigeria.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, AFAN President Dr Farouk Rabiu-Mudi made this announcement in Abuja during the MoU signing ceremony. Rabiu-Mudi highlighted that this collaboration is aligned with AFAN’s ongoing commitment to simplifying farming systems and elevating the livelihoods of farmers throughout Nigeria, with a particular focus on grassroots communities. He expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Value 360 Ventures, noting its potential to bring transformative changes to the country’s agricultural sector.
Rabiu-Mudi explained that the collaboration is set to facilitate a shift from inorganic to organic fertilisers, which is expected to improve soil texture and quality. He further mentioned that adopting organic fertilisers would help reduce production costs for farmers, boost yields, and make Nigerian agricultural products more competitive in global markets. Additionally, he pointed out that reducing carbon dioxide emissions from synthetic fertilisers would contribute to generating carbon credits, thereby decreasing reliance on synthetic products.
AFAN is committed to ensuring that the benefits of this partnership extend to grassroots and smallholder farmers, aiming to leverage Nigeria’s potential for large-scale organic food production. Rabiu-Mudi emphasized the importance of empowering farmers and restoring control of agriculture to their hands.
Dr Kazeem Oladimeji, the founder of Value 360 Ventures, stated that the agreement would attract investment opportunities, enhance farmer productivity, and introduce improved technology for sustainable agriculture. The organisation is dedicated to promoting organic farming and replacing synthetic fertilisers with organic solutions to fortify Nigeria’s food systems. Oladimeji also highlighted the significance of training youth and women across local government areas, given that Nigeria’s size and population make food security a pressing national issue.
