Abuja: The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has reopened the slip road at the Galadimawa Interchange to vehicular movement. The acting Director General of FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed, announced the removal of the barricade, indicating that the connector between Goodluck Jonathan Expressway and Ring Road 11 at the interchange is now safe for use.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mohammed was represented by the Head of the Department of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mr. Mark Nyam, who explained that the slip road had been barricaded since July 1st due to recurring flooding during the peak of the rainy season. The barricade was a preventive measure to restrict vehicular movement and ensure safety.
With the end of the rainy season, the road has been reopened. Mohammed highlighted the importance of this annual measure, which plays a crucial role in saving lives until the completion of ongoing construction work.
Additionally, Abdulkadir Musa, the Assistant Chief Resident Engineer of the Federal Capital Development Authority, stated that efforts to establish a permanent solution are underway. The construction project is extensive and involves significant investment, including the construction of a bridge in the area. The temporary closures and reopenings during the rainy season are necessary actions to protect lives.
