Abuja:The African Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with the UNDP AI Hub for Sustainable Development, Google, and Apolitical, has introduced a free artificial intelligence training program for public servants across Africa. This initiative was launched alongside the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the program is designed to enhance the understanding and application of AI among public officials. It includes courses provided under Apolitical’s Government AI Campus initiative, covering AI fundamentals, leadership, and smarter procurement practices. The training content is developed by Stanford University Online and SDA Bocconi School of Management, with Google and Apolitical facilitating the learning platform.

is partnership aims to fill that gap. The training represents a step towards implementing recommendations from an AfDB report, which forecasts that AI deployment could contribute up to one trillion dollars to Africa’s GDP by 2035, given the necessary skills and governance structures.
Keyzom Massally, Director of the AI Hub for Sustainable Development, highlighted the need for timely institutional and technical support to enable African governments to participate in the AI economy. The AI Hub initiative, endorsed by the G7 and co-led by UNDP and Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises, aligns with Italy’s Mattei Plan for Africa, with AfDB as a founding member.
The training is self-paced and available for free to government officials and public servants in AfDB regional member countries. Eligible participants include those involved in AI for public service delivery, digital infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and innovation.
