Osogbo:A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to strengthen and comprehensively evaluate the Federal Government’s social intervention programs to alleviate economic hardship in Nigeria.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oyintiloye emphasized the necessity of reviewing existing interventions that address youth employment, skills development, cash transfers, school feeding, agriculture, and other social protection measures. He stressed that the programs should be assessed for their impact on poverty levels, employment creation, productivity, household purchasing power, and overall improvements in living conditions.
Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, underscored the need for these interventions to have clear targets, transparent beneficiary selection, strong monitoring, and measurable performance indicators to minimize leakages, duplication, and abuse. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring that public funds lead to tangibl
e benefits.
He commended President Tinubu for the allocation of N462.66 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction but noted that Nigeria’s poverty rate remains high compared to neighboring Ghana. Ghana’s multidimensional poverty rate was reported at 21.9 percent in the third quarter of 2025, while Nigeria’s projected poverty level for 2026 is expected to be around 62 to 63 percent.
Oyintiloye also advocated for improved workers’ allowances and welfare packages to increase purchasing power, stimulate local businesses, and strengthen household incomes. He encouraged Nigerians to maintain faith in President Tinubu’s ability to reduce poverty, despite the current economic challenges.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to support the President’s efforts, citing the removal of fuel subsidies and monetary policies as steps in the right direction, and called for prayers and collective support for the country’s progress.
