The African Union (AU) Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate, in collaboration with the Voluntary Involving Organization Network (VIO-net), concluded a training session in Freetown with a ceremony to award certificates to participants. Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray led the event at the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Welfare. The certification marked a significant step in empowering women, youth, and marginalized groups in Sierra Leone.
The training was part of the AU’s broader initiatives to enhance capacity building, promote good governance, and foster regional integration among member states. The session focused on key themes such as conflict resolution, peacekeeping, human rights, and sustainable development.
Victor A. Sesay, Director of Ecosystem and Capacity Building at the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NC3), emphasized the importance of these initiatives in driving meaningful change across the continent. The AU Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate, in particular, plays a cruc
ial role in promoting gender equality, empowering women, and supporting youth development.
The collaboration between the AU Directorate and VIO-net has facilitated impactful programs that align with the AU’s goals for socio-economic development. The partnership has been instrumental in fostering leadership and promoting active participation in civic life.
Participants in the training session received certificates recognizing their commitment to advancing these important causes. The AU and VIO-net’s partnership demonstrates a solid commitment to addressing the unique challenges women and young people face in Africa through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable approaches.
