Uyo: Oriental Energy Resources Ltd. has renewed its commitment to supporting good governance and sustainable development in its host communities in Akwa Ibom. The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Mustafa Indimi, announced this during a three-day capacity-building programme for officials of the Effiat Mbo Host Communities Development Trust (EMHCDT) held in Uyo.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Indimi, represented by Dr. Uwem Ite, Head of Community Relations, emphasized the company’s dedication as the settlor of the Trust to deliver sustainable development benefits to the host communities. Oriental Energy has been proactive in supporting the establishment and effective management of the Trust, ensuring that community stakeholders are well-equipped to plan, design, develop, and implement sustainable projects and programs.
Indimi highlighted the company’s ongoing support for the Board of Trustees, Management, and Advisory Committees through various engagements, experience-sharing sessions, and technical expertise aimed at fostering sustainable community development. He also reaffirmed Oriental Energy’s commitment to fulfilling its financial obligations to the Trust in accordance with the relevant statutory framework.
The Managing Director commended the Trust’s governance bodies for their collaborative efforts in delivering development benefits to the Effiat, Ebughu, Enwang, Uda, and Udesi communities. He pointed to a 15-day medical outreach conducted by the Trust in May as a significant intervention that provided valuable insights for future initiatives.
Additionally, Indimi highlighted the Trust’s education, skills acquisition, and business grant programs, noting that beneficiaries had recently participated in an orientation ceremony. He stressed the importance of effective leadership, stakeholder participation, and peaceful coexistence among the communities to achieve sustainable development.
Mr. Inam Okon, Chairman of the EMHCDT, also spoke at the event, describing the training as crucial for strengthening the capacity of the Trust’s governance organs. He urged participants to deepen their understanding of their legal and regulatory responsibilities, fiduciary obligations, and the distinct roles of the various organs of the Trust. Okon expressed gratitude to Oriental Energy for its role as settlor and its ongoing support for the Trust’s effective administration.
