Post: APC Chairman Urges Ikorodu Residents to Register for PVC

Ikorodu: Alhaji Waheed Animashaun, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has called on eligible residents to take part in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to obtain their Permanent Voter Card (PVC). Animashaun emphasized the importance of this exercise in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), highlighting its role in enhancing democratic participation at the grassroots level.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the call was made during the inauguration of the committee on Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) in the community. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the CVR will continue for a year, concluding on August 30, 2026. Animashaun specifically encouraged newly relocated residents and those who have recently turned 18 to seize this opportunity to obtain their voter cards.

He stated that the CVR initiative aims to motivate residents, particularly first-time voters and those without PVCs, to register and become eligible to participate in future elections. He emphasized the role of traditional rulers, youths, market traders, religious leaders, and councilors in actively engaging eligible voters. Each zone will have designated agents to assist residents with the registration process.

Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, former Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government and the committee’s publicity secretary, remarked on the significance of the CVR program as a means for citizens to assert their democratic rights. She noted that the committee had established a structure to make voter registration accessible across all geopolitical zones of the local government.

Olabanji-Oba emphasized the power of the PVC as a vital tool for political participation and urged residents to overcome their indifference towards voting. She highlighted that democracy flourishes when citizens are actively engaged and encouraged residents to view the exercise as a step towards greater representation in Lagos State politics.

Expressing her gratitude, Olabanji-Oba acknowledged the leadership of Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, a former deputy governor of the state and the division’s apex party leader, for his role in maintaining unity within Ikorodu under the party’s banner.
