Abuja: The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, has been honored with the 2025 Public Procurement Reformer Award by Blueprint Newspaper. This accolade was announced by the Assistant Chief Information Officer of BPP, Ngozi Anyaelezu, in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Anyaelezu highlighted that the award acknowledges Adedokun’s significant contributions to institutional transformation and reforms in public procurement. The award was presented during the 8th edition of the Blueprint Newspaper Public Lecture, Impact Series, and Awards, held in Abuja. The event, themed ‘Security Challenges and Integrity of Nigeria’s 2027 Election’, gathered government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, media practitioners, and other stakeholders.
Blueprint Newspaper reportedly recognized Adedokun’s leadership and dedication to transparency, accountability, and enhanced service delivery. The award also noted his efforts in reshaping Nigeria’s public procurement system in alignment with the Renewed Hope Transformative Agenda. Adedokun expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to national transformation and dedicated the award to Nigerians who are devoted to the nation’s progress, future generations, and the BPP staff for their dedication to protecting public funds.
The Managing Director of Blueprint Newspaper, Mr. Salisu Umar, stated that the annual event, initiated in 2018, serves as a platform to address national issues and recognize Nigerians who have exemplified exceptional leadership and transformative impact. Umar mentioned that the theme for the 2026 edition was chosen due to the prevailing security challenges in the country, with the awards aimed at honoring notable Nigerians contributing to national development.
Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, the Chairman of the occasion, emphasized that security is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians and highlighted its direct impact on citizens’ lives and the economy. Yari reiterated that security and economic development are key priorities of the Tinubu administration and called for national unity for a better Nigeria.
Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, praised Blueprint Newspaper for selecting a timely theme for the event. He stressed that electoral integrity relies on a secure environment, credible institutions, and responsible political actors, urging the media to fulfill its duties effectively and prevent misinformation.
The Guest Speaker, Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, represented by Maj.-Gen. Olufemi Akinjobi, underscored the increasing significance of the media as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections. Akinjobi noted that electoral integrity is not solely reliant on electoral and security agencies but also on the media’s ability to provide accurate information, educate citizens, and promote national unity. He described the 2027 election as a national project requiring a collective effort from various sectors to secure the electoral process.
Other notable awardees included the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso; GMD/CEO of Zenith Bank, Adaora Umeoji; Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu; APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Governor of Zamfara, Dauda Lawal; Sen. Abdulaziz Yari; and Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
