Post: Borno flood: NEDC Assesses level of destruction

Following the massive flood that ravaged many parts of Borno State in Northeast Nigeria, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), says it is collaborating with relevant Agencies to provide relief assistance to victims of the disaster.

The Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, said this when he went on an assessment tour of areas affected by the disaster.

The team visited some areas within Maiduguri, the State Capital where they sympathized with the victims and pledged immediate humanitarian support and assistance to them.

‘As an interim measure, the Commission will liaise with the State Government as well as the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to provide temporary relief to victims pending a full investigation and assessment of the situation,’ the NEDC boss stated.

The Managing Director described the incident as unfortunate and advised residents living along flood-prone areas to exercise great caution and avoid such areas for their safety.
