The Armed Forces of Nigeria said they are set to harmonize their operations into one operation to be able to tackle the security challenges facing the country.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa made this known during his briefing to the general public on the security situation in the country in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
General Musa said, ‘The synergies efforts would come under one command and then the commander will be able to utilize all the equipment and tools together to ensure that we address this critically.’
According to him, as regards their visit to Sokoto, they have overviewed the entire operation and realized that they need to harmonize their operations.
‘As you notice, we have Operation Hadarin Daji and Operation Whirl Stroke both within the Northwest region, we have seen the need for us to harmonize those operations into one operation that we did in the northeast where we have Operation Hadin KAI, the same thing is being done now for the North West operation, we have one u
nified operation. It is going to be called Operation FANSAN YANMA,’ he stated.
The CDS said the bandits intend to show their presence therefore, the approach will be the best solution to tackle them.
The Defence Chief also appealed to Nigerians to desist from rendering any assistance to bandits.
‘When you train monsters, when they grow up, definitely you will be the next, so we appeal to Nigerians not to allow themselves to become also used.’
He added that although the security agents cannot be everywhere at a time, they will help build the capacity of the locals to be able to defend themselves for a while before the military comes.
According to him, they have adopted that in the North East, with the Civilian JTF being a hybrid, noting that all works are done in collaboration with the state governors and other stakeholders.
‘So we’re working as a team to ensure that we address these issues together,’ he added.
He also urged everyone to work together with members of the security agencies to deny them th
e ability to go freely within the communities.
‘Do not give them information on the movement of troops, because this is what is happening, most of the area where this is continuing is because we have informants within the communities,’ he added.
He reminded Nigerians that asymmetric warfare is something that should not be allowed to commence because you don’t know them, but they know you and are within the community.
‘If you don’t have the support of the community, it makes it extremely, very difficult.’
The Chief of Training and Operations, Major General Emeka Onumajuru who gave a brief speech said that ‘there is relatives’ peace in most of the geopolitical zones’ as he commended the troops and other security agencies.
According to him, ‘The Chief of Defence Staff has directed a holistic review of the entire operation in the upwards to make it more effective.’
