Abuja: The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Equipment Leasing Registration Authority (ELRA) have pledged to strengthen their collaboration to enhance compliance, accountability, and transparency in Nigeria’s procurement processes. This announcement was made in a statement by the Director-General of the BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, during a meeting in Abuja with the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of ELRA, Mr. Donald Wokoma.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adedokun emphasized the bureau’s role as a central entity in the government’s efforts to regulate public procurement effectively and develop social amenities. He highlighted the necessity for every agency to collaborate with the BPP to achieve national development objectives. The partnership with ELRA aims to provide clear guidelines for enforcement, enhance strategic communication of objectives, and increase public awareness of the benefits of leasing in procurement.
Adedokun also called for capacity building and worker training to promote efficiency. In response, Wokoma praised the BPP’s role in strengthening transparency and contributing to nation-building. He noted that collaboration with the bureau is crucial for the full implementation of the Ministry of Finance circular on leasing, which requires Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt leasing in procurement processes.
Wokoma further explained that under the Equipment Leasing Act 2025, ELRA is mandated to regulate, promote, monitor, and develop the leasing industry. The partnership with BPP, he stated, would enhance credibility, strengthen compliance, and support government revenue mobilization. Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to working together to implement the circular, enforce legal compliance, and entrench accountability in Nigeria’s procurement system.
