Post: Call for Peace and Development at Urhobo Cultural Festival

Abuja:The Ovie of Umiaghwa-Abraka in Delta, retired AVM Lucky Ararile, has called for lasting peace, unity, stability, and development within the Urhobo nation.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ararile made this appeal during the 2026 Ukoko r’Ighelle Festival held in Abuja, organized by the Abuja branch of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Ighelle. The festival, themed ‘Igniting the Power of the Youth for a Stronger Urhobo Nation,’ saw the participation of Urhobo community members from various fields.

The traditional ruler emphasized the importance of engaging and harnessing the potential of the youth for the development of the Urhobo land and the entire country. He highlighted the need to encourage peace and youth involvement in development efforts.

Olorogun Felix Edewor, President of the UPU Abuja branch, noted that the festival serves as a platform to celebrate Urhobo culture, promote networking, and involve youths in constructive activities. Represented by Mr. Israel Eseoghene, the association’s Secretary, Edewor stated that the event allows young Urhobo men and women to connect with each other and seek cultural guidance from elders.

Mrs. Bezi Oghenekevwe, the youth leader of the association, also remarked on the festival’s role in fostering Urhobo culture, unity, and development. The event was attended by various Urhobo dignitaries, including Mr. Peter Igho, a playwright and former Executive Director of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), along with other traditional rulers.
