Lagos:Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged corps members assigned to Lagos State to make significant contributions during their national service.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Governor Sanwo-Olu addressed the 2026 Batch C corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja. Although he was represented by Mrs. Toyin Oke-Osayantolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of making even small contributions that could greatly impact the lives of others or their host communities.

The governor encouraged the corps members to seize opportunities in Lagos, noting that academic qualifications alone might not suffice in today’s competitive world. He advised them to enhance their education with practical skills such as leadership, entrepreneurship, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the orientation course as a platform to shape the corps members’ character and understanding of national responsibility, preparing them for future challenges. He urged them to take the course seriously and embrace the values of the scheme, which offers a chance to interact with peers from diverse backgrounds, fostering national unity.

He assured the corps members of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for their service, emphasizing the administration’s priority on the security of residents in collaboration with relevant agencies.

Justice Layinka Ladun, representing the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, administered the oath of allegiance to officially induct the graduates into the national service.

Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, the Lagos State Coordinator of the NYSC, reiterated the significance of the orientation course as a foundation for national service. She mentioned that it helps develop teamwork, leadership skills, and a deeper appreciation of Nigeria’s values. Salmwang disclosed that 3,224 corps members were registered in the Lagos camp, while an additional 4,695 were sent to other states due to accommodation constraints.

Salmwang reminded the corps members of their privilege and responsibility in the NYSC, urging them to maintain discipline, abide by the course rules, and uphold integrity, as they represent themselves and their families. She also expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his ongoing support and reaffirmed NYSC’s dedication to corps members’ welfare and security during the orientation.
