Post: CAN Urges Nigerian Government to Ensure Prosperity Reaches Every Home

Abuja:The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has extended congratulations to the citizens on the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, emphasizing the need for the Federal Government to ensure prosperity is experienced in every household.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, CAN, through a statement by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, expressed support for the government’s shift from economic reforms to prosperity. However, it stressed that progress must lead to tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.

Archbishop Okoh highlighted that the true measure of progress goes beyond statistics. It is reflected in whether families can afford food, young people can find decent jobs, communities can live safely, and every child has a fair chance to build a future. He urged the government to focus on reducing the costs of food, transport, and energy, arguing that Nigerians, who have endured prolonged economic pressures, deserve to see meaningful relief.

He also emphasized the importance of social protection reaching the most vulnerable, and called for strengthened support for families, education, healthcare, and affordable credit, ensuring these are administered transparently and shielded from misuse. Okoh noted that prosperity that does not reach the average Nigerian household remains incomplete.

Furthermore, Okoh expressed that meaningful prosperity is unattainable where citizens live in fear, unable to farm, trade, travel, or sleep peacefully. He urged continuous efforts to protect lives, secure communities, and restore national confidence.

The CAN president also advised political actors in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, stating that no politician should be considered the Messiah. He reminded Christians of their freedom to support or critique any candidate but warned against using Jesus Christ’s name in partisan conflicts.

He reaffirmed CAN’s dedication to remain a non-partisan moral voice, committed to upholding justice, accountability, and compassion among leaders.
