Abuja: Rev. Fr. Anthony Azuwike has marked his silver jubilee of priesthood with a thanksgiving Mass and the launch of a book focusing on national development.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the celebration, attended by His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan, bishops, priests, religious members, family, and well-wishers, highlighted Azuwike’s contributions to religious and national discourse through his dedication to faith, scholarship, and community service. Speaking at the event in Abuja, Azuwike emphasized the significance of his 25-year journey in priesthood, acknowledging the fulfillment he found despite facing various challenges.
Azuwike encouraged Nigerians to uncover and utilize their inherent talents for community development, underscoring the importance of individual roles in nation-building. “The important thing is to discover our talents, develop them and use them for the community,” he stated.
A key moment of the celebration was the unveiling of Azuwike’s 274-page book, “A Nation in Search of Unity,” which explores current issues and provides recommendations for national development. Reflecting on his journey, Azuwike expressed gratitude to God, noting the joys and successes in his ministry outweighed the challenges. He described the publication as a blend of philosophical reflections and practical strategies for Nigeria’s sustainable development.
Born on January 3, 1976, and ordained on September 1, 2001, Azuwike considered the dual celebration a fulfillment of God’s purpose for his life. As a member of the Faculty of Private and Property Law at Veritas University, Abuja, he reaffirmed his commitment to serving God and mentoring youth, pledging continued contributions to national progress through faith and education.
Cardinal Onaiyekan congratulated Azuwike, highlighting his dedication to God and humanity over the past 25 years. He emphasized the importance of discovering and utilizing personal talents for communal benefit. Rev. Fr. Stephen Omale, Parish Priest of Church of the Assumption, acknowledged Azuwike’s joyful dedication to his ministry and urged him to remain steadfast in his service.
Rev. Sister Justina Nnajiofor of the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena praised Azuwike as a compassionate priest with a positive impact on many lives, particularly young people. She noted the practicality of the ideas in his new book, which could significantly advance Nigeria’s development.
