Lagos: China has unveiled documentaries and events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Some of the documentaries include The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru and World War II: Remembered, Reimagined, Retold; The Canvas that Speaks, and The Compass of History. China Global Television Network host, Huang Jiyuan, emphasized the importance of history, stating that it is not merely a list of past events but a tapestry of lives and struggles.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, China is set to hold a military parade on September 3rd to mark this significant anniversary. During a recent news conference in Beijing, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu highlighted the victory as a pivotal moment that led to China’s emergence from crisis and subsequent national rejuvenation. He noted its impact on the global fight against fascism and the pursuit of peace.
Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, Ma Zhaoxu stated that China has maintained an independent foreign policy focused on peace, proposing the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and advocating for world multipolarisation and democracy in international relations. China has consistently contributed to global peace and development and remains dedicated to fostering a shared future for humanity in collaboration with other nations.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Chinese Consulate in Lagos organized a forum in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs as part of the commemorative events. At the forum, Ms Yan Yuqing, Consul-General of China in Lagos, emphasized the importance of honoring history, remembering heroes, and cherishing peace. She asserted that any attempts to deny historical aggression or glorify militarism should be opposed globally.
Ms Yan further remarked that through significant national sacrifices, China maintained the Eastern front of the World Anti-Fascist War, contributing decisively to its victory. The Chinese people, she affirmed, will always remember the support received from peace-loving nations globally, including those from Africa. The consul-general concluded by stating that war serves as a reminder of the value of peace and underscored mutual respect, equality, and peaceful development as the pathways to common prosperity for humanity.
