Post: CIIN Outgoing President Urges Successor to Strengthen Industry Collaboration, Highlights Achievements

Abuja: The outgoing President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, has urged her successor to maintain collaboration among industry stakeholders and continue the reforms initiated by previous administrations. Ilori shared this advice during her virtual valedictory news conference in Lagos, where she reviewed her tenure under the EPIC Agenda.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the investiture of Mr. Akinjide Orimolade as the 53rd President of CIIN is scheduled for Friday. During her address, Ilori emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “Nobody can achieve anything alone. We need people, so collaboration must continue.” She highlighted that her successor has a solid foundation to build upon, just as she did during her tenure.

Ilori outlined the key achievements of her two-year tenure, which included expanding insurance education, raising public awareness, and empowering young professionals. She explained that the EPIC framework, which stands for Education, Professionalism, Institutional Recognition, and Capacity Building, guided the institute’s activities over the past two years. She attributed the successes to industry-wide collaboration.

She noted the transformation of the institute’s annual Insurance Week into a nationwide awareness campaign featuring market outreaches, public engagements, and school programs. The institute also launched innovation programs for youths, such as an insurance hackathon where students, insurance practitioners, and technology experts developed solutions for the industry’s future.

Ilori also mentioned the production of two insurance education books aimed at children aged four to 16, designed to introduce insurance concepts early on. These books are being distributed to schools to promote insurance literacy.

In collaboration with stakeholders, including the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the institute trained one million youths on insurance through a digital platform. This initiative aimed to improve insurance knowledge, create employment opportunities, and encourage more Nigerians to embrace insurance.

Ilori highlighted the institute’s role in the successful passage of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA 2025) as a landmark achievement. She also mentioned enhanced engagement with diaspora members, the organization of directors’ conferences, facility upgrades at the College of Insurance and Financial Management, and securing donations, including a modern Information Technology laboratory.

The outgoing president praised the expansion of partnerships with universities, promotion of internship opportunities for students, and collaboration with other insurance bodies under the ‘One Insurance’ initiative to deepen industry unity.

Reflecting on her tenure, Ilori expressed her enjoyment of the collaboration experienced while in office and her optimism that the initiatives introduced under the EPIC agenda would be sustained by future administrations for the further development of the insurance profession.
