Abuja: Community leaders among other stakeholders in the Ojokoro area of Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency II in Lagos State have called for the establishment of a senior secondary school and the improvement of road infrastructure in the area. This call was made during the 10th Annual Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting organized by the Lagos State House of Assembly, held simultaneously across all 40 constituencies in the state.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the theme of this year’s meeting was ‘Governance in Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda’. Alhaji Azeez Amusat, Chairman of the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council (CDAC), led the community leaders in highlighting the urgent need for a senior secondary school in the Akinyele/Alakuko area to improve access to secondary education. Amusat pointed out that previous stakeholders’ meetings had resulted in improvements to road networks, but more work was needed to address critical infrastructure gaps.
He emphasized, “We are looking for more such things. We want to remind our lawmakers that some roads that are important to us are yet to be constituted. We have a school project that we want the government to assist us to build.” The community has already taken steps by purchasing and fencing land, and beginning the construction of six classrooms. However, Amusat stressed the necessity of government intervention to complete the project and ensure nearby access to senior secondary education for local children.
Oba Williams Adeshoga, the Olorile of Alagbado in Ojokoro LCDA, echoed the need for both a senior secondary school and more roads, emphasizing the challenges faced by the community. Similarly, Mr. Olusegun Jolaosho, Councillor representing Ward G, underscored the importance of addressing these educational and infrastructural needs.
Mr. Olotu Emmanuel, the lawmaker representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency II at the Lagos Assembly, used the meeting to engage with the community and discuss ongoing efforts to address their concerns. Emmanuel affirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents and supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda across various sectors.
Former House of Representatives member Mr. James Owolabi praised Emmanuel for his representation and reiterated the community’s need for better road infrastructure. Additionally, Mrs. Adenike Rosiji, Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), highlighted the positive impact of Tinubu’s agenda on local governance and community development.
The stakeholders’ meeting convened a diverse group of traditional, political, community, market, youth, women, and ethnic leaders, all committed to addressing the pressing needs of the Ojokoro area.
