Abuja: The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its road infrastructure projects across the country. Its National Spokesperson, Mark Adebayo, made this statement in Abuja following an inspection of the Abuja-Lokoja-Benin Road, among others. Adebayo noted that the coalition rated the current administration ‘very good’ in road infrastructure after a thorough assessment of work in various sectors of the Nigerian economy over the last two years.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, members of the steering committee of the CUPP conducted the independent inspection mission. Their aim was to personally assess the situation across key zones to counter any Federal Government propaganda in that sector. The inspection team included Mr. Emeka Igwe, Mrs. Grace Ishaku, Dr. Abayomi Runsewe, Amb. Abbah Lewis, and National Spokesperson, Adebayo, among others.
As 2025 approaches, coalition members have been analyzing work done in various sectors of the Nigerian economy under the current administration. This analysis is deemed necessary for constructive criticism of the Federal Government’s activities and to guide both leaders and the electorate ahead of the 2027 election. The CUPP steering committee carried out a field assessment of select road projects nationwide to separate facts from government propaganda.
The opposition spokesperson expressed that while the initial intent was to question the claims of achievements by the All Progressives Congress government, particularly in infrastructure development, the findings from the first phase of their nationwide inspection were positive. The coalition acknowledged the progress made in road infrastructure under President Bola Tinubu and commended the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for his efforts.
The CUPP noted that numerous road construction and rehabilitation projects are ongoing across the country, employing new methods that enhance durability and capacity. Roads under construction where contractors are fully engaged include the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway (Phase 1), Benin-Shagamu-Ore Road, Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, and Abuja-Lokoja-Benin Road, which is undergoing dualisation using concrete technology.
Adebayo mentioned that the coalition plans to conduct more on-site assessment tours before the year ends to provide practical feedback to the public and advise the government where necessary. The CUPP believes that if the government continues to apply its current energy and resources to Nigeria’s road networks, the longstanding issue of bad roads will be resolved.
The minister’s commitment to fieldwork rather than office-based tasks was highlighted as a positive approach. The coalition praised Senator David Umahi’s leadership, stating that he may become the best Works Minister to date if he maintains his current trajectory. They reiterated the importance of citizens’ rights to observe government projects without harassment, as it serves as an alternative feedback mechanism for the public.
