Abuja:Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has extended his congratulations to Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary. He urged leaders to view public office as a position of trust and service to the nation.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mark delivered a goodwill message in Abuja, encouraging both citizens and leaders to renew their dedication to national unity, peace, stability, and development. He highlighted the significance of independence as a major milestone, reflecting the resilience and aspirations of Nigerians.
Mark emphasized the importance of using the anniversary as a moment for reflection on Nigeria’s journey and for reinforcing the commitment to building a just and secure nation. He pointed out that Nigeria’s abundant human and material resources have the potential to transform the country into a prosperous and globally respected nation.
However, he noted the challenge of responsibly harnessing these resources for the
common good, which involves strengthening institutions and promoting inclusion, accountability, and national cohesion. Mark acknowledged the contributions of the nation’s founding fathers, past leaders, armed forces, security agencies, and citizens to Nigeria’s growth.
He called on political leaders to treat public office as a solemn trust and an opportunity to serve, rather than using it for personal gain. Mark urged Nigerians to adhere to democratic values and peaceful coexistence, viewing the country’s diversity as a source of strength.
Expressing optimism, he stated that visionary leadership, responsible citizenship, institutional reforms, and renewed patriotism would help Nigeria overcome current challenges and realize its potential. He concluded by congratulating Nigerians both at home and abroad, praying for peace, stability, prosperity, and unity across the nation.
