Abuja: A defence scholar and publisher, Dr Sani Abubakar, has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, as the Minister of Defence. Abubakar described this appointment as ‘a timely and strategic choice for a nation at a security crossroads.’
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abubakar, who serves as a senior lecturer at the Abuja Leadership Centre, University of Abuja, emphasized that Gen. Musa’s extensive 34-year career has equipped him with the necessary depth, discipline, and operational experience to effectively reposition Nigeria’s defence sector. He highlighted Musa’s national and international respect, gained through his leadership as Chief of Defence Staff between 2023 and 2025, his command of Operation Hadin Kai, and his role in the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin.
Abubakar remarked, “Gen. Musa has demonstrated uncommon commitment to Nigeria’s stability, including leading complex counter-insurgency operations and receiving global recognition such as the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.” He further noted that Nigeria needs steady, knowledgeable, and strategic leadership to address its evolving security threats.
The defence scholar called upon Nigerians, including civil society, the private sector, and the armed forces, to provide Gen. Musa with the support required to strengthen the country’s defence infrastructure, enhance regional cooperation, and ensure the protection of communities nationwide.
