DG Inaugurates NGO to Improve Access to Education in Underserved Communities

Abuja: Dr Jobson Ewalefoh, the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, has inaugurated a non-governmental organization focused on improving the quality of education in underserved communities. Ewalefoh unveiled the NGO, named the Jobson Ewalefoh Foundation, during a dinner event celebrating his 50th birthday anniversary in Abuja. He emphasized the need for education to be both qualitative and accessible to all, reflecting on how access to education transformed his life despite his humble beginnings.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the primary goal of the foundation is to nurture children to become transformational leaders through education. Ewalefoh stated that the foundation seeks partners who share its vision and are willing to adopt, train, and mentor children to greatness. He stressed the importance of collectively reducing the out-of-school children gap in Nigeria. While he will not be directly involved in the NGO’s activities due to his political appointment, the foundation will be managed by a board of trustees.

Prof. Christopher Isike, a lecturer at the University of Pretoria and a friend of Ewalefoh, highlighted the transformative power of quality education for individuals and societies. He pledged to offer fully funded scholarships to beneficiaries of the foundation at the University of Pretoria and the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

Sen. Bassey Otu, the Governor of Cross River, who attended the event, praised Ewalefoh’s commitment to service and his positive impact on lives. He remarked on Ewalefoh’s professionalism and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future with more individuals like him contributing to societal development.

Additionally, the Governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Deputy, Mr Olayide Adelami, lauded Ewalefoh’s investment in education, describing it as a critical area of human development. He emphasized that education brings light to communities by exposing children to a world of limitless opportunities.
